In the August edition of The Intern Diaries, Ksenija, our Social Media Coordinator, talks about her time at RfR.

A happy experience has come to an end for me. I am very glad to have had the privilege of participating in the internship program at RfR – as a Generalist Intern, and then as their Social Media Coordinator. I joined in January 2013 after completing a formal group interview and training. I was drawn to Rent frock Repeat because of Lisa and Kristy (the co-founders), rather than the product or industry. I liked the culture they fostered, goals they aim to achieve, and their impressive career paths. As a past President of a university women in business organization, I was in awe of these two female entrepreneurs and wanted to learn everything I could from them!

Tina Fey quote

Lisa and Kristy encouraged me, like all their interns, to take initiative by asking for projects in areas that interested us. Although I initially expected to pursue an Event Planning specialization, they saw a potential in my that I had overlooked. After the Spring 2013 photo shoot, where I volunteered to tweet and post photos to Instagram, giving followers a behind-the-scenes look into RfR, Lisa and Kristy were impressed and asked me to taken on Social Media for the company on a daily basis. It’s safe to say that I was a bit nervous because there was no previous intern to train me, and I was expected to organize all social media channels! Regardless, I said yes, and leaped into the busy role.

Throughout this position, I learned as much as I could about the new and exciting field of social media marketing. I was provided a lot of support and encouragement from my bosses: the founders and Carly (Communications Coordintor), as well as my awesome fellow interns [I’ll miss you all dearly!]. Working with this great team and promoting such a unique and necessary service, I gained skills in providing exceptional customer service, the importance of paying attention to detail, how to market a brand new idea, and so much more. I could really go on and on, but the gist of it is: RfR is a great place to intern at and without them I wouldn’t be starting my career and heading to the real world [wish me luck, eek!].

My parting words: any experience is what you decide to make of it – so get out there and soak up as much knowledge as you can!
