Happy New Year and Happy 2013 friends! I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a good feeling about this year!

Now the holidays are over, the black tie gala season starts. And since I’m always looking for just about any reason to throw on a great pair of heels and a beautiful dress, I’m excited, it’s one of the all time best reasons to get dressed up!

We have a fantastic selection of frocks, but this gown by Ports 1961 has slowly become one of my favourites. It is made out of 100% silk and is so light and smooth. Plus this dress can be worn so many different ways simply by switching up the removable Swarovski silk sash.

Pair the dress with some pearl (or, like myself, faux pearl) strands sprinkled with beads and tie the sash around the bust line showing off your shoulders, giving this dress a fabulous classic vibe. I love this long, flowy look, but a skinny black belt at the waist (for those out there who want to show off a waistline) would be another great addition to this look.

Channel black tie boho chic and skip the sash altogether letting the dress stand on its own. Instead fold the sash in half and tie it around your head like a silk scarf, letting it float down your back. To complete your boho look layer as many complementing necklaces and bracelets of your choice that your fashion conscience will allow.

Or there’s always the glamazon look. A long, flowing gown, nipped in at the waist to show off your curves, as many diamonds as you can handle and a little pop of colour.

I just love when one dress can be worn so many ways, by many different people to complement many different styles. Especially when that dress feels like wearing hardly anything at all.

So now I’ve got my dress, I’ve got my shoes and accessories, now all I need is a black tie gala!!

Peace, love and good style – Holly Howitt
