For those of you that may not know who Marie Kondo is, perhaps you’ve heard her mantra, “Does it spark joy?”

Marie Kondo is an organizing consultant and creator of the KonMari method; a system of simplifying and organizing your home by getting rid of physical items that do not bring joy into your life as described in detail in her best-selling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Marie Kondo’s life-changing approach has recently been captured in her new Netflix special which documents the organization-guru’s decluttering process with real families who are struggling to tidy up their homes.

KonMari teaches you to ask a simple question when you go about tidying up your house. Of each item in your home ask, does it spark joy? If not, get rid of it.

If you’ve been engaging with Rent frock Repeat (RfR), you know we’ve been following the #LessStuffMoreLife philosophy since 2011. By renting instead of buying, you can easily maintain an organized closet, for good. We think Marie Kondo would approve.

Maintenance: How to never have to declutter again.

The KonMari method, without this critical step, is like doing all the hard work of reducing your calorie intake, exercising and finally feeling the joy of reaching your health goals but finding yourself back at square one a year later because you weren’t shown how to maintain the weight long term.

Let’s face it, once we’ve pared down our stuff, we may still need to bring in some new items into our life. For those of you that love fashion like we do, the items that brought us joy last month may not bring us the same joy this month. The reason for it is that we see getting dressed as a way to express ourselves and for many of us it is a creative outlet. A painter would not be expected to paint the same picture day after day just like a composer would not be expected to write the same song over and over again. For those of you that are not fashion lovers, you still may need new items because your circumstances might change; a new job, pregnancy, a move to a new city (different climate) and a hundred other reasons may require a different wardrobe in a new size.

Let’s review the KonMari Method as it relates to your closet:

Congratulations! You are all done.

You get a new job, you get pregnant, you move, you’re bored wearing the same thing over and over again so out you go to get some new items and next thing you know you are back at square one ”KonMari-ing” all over again.

What if we told you we have the perfect maintenance solution? A magical place where you could have access to a beautiful variety of options that came in the size you need, when you need it, that you would never have to wash or dry clean meaning you would never have to declutter your closet again!
